22/09/2011 – Taking Back Sunday (Eddie Reyes) – english

Taking Back Sunday released their fifth studio album on June 28 via Warner Bros. Records. Given the fact that now the band has the same line-up as when they released Tell All Your Friends, we wanted to talk to them (Eddie Reyes) to see how they have been so far. Enjoy the interview!

Enjoy The Show: Your new album has been out for two months now. How has the reception been so far?
Eddie Reyes: So far, so good. I can tell the more dates that our tour went on that folks really knew the words more and reacted more to the new songs.

ETS: Your old line-up is back on track. How did this happen and what did you want to achieve with this new situation? What would you say that has changed the most during these years you’ve been apart?
E.R.: It was mark’s idea to get us back together because, well it just needed to happen. Taking Back Sunday was missing something for years and now it feel’s normal again. Honestly when we got back together it felt like we never split up.

ETS: This time you’ve decided to work again with Eric Valentine who produced your third album, ‘Louder Now’, back in 2006. What made you go back to him given the fact that he didn’t produce ‘New Again’?
E.R.: Well we weren’t very happy with how new again turned out so we felt like we needed to go back to Eric cause he knows us and works best with us and makes us better musicians.. He is a music scientist.. The guy just knows his shit.

ETS: Have the writing or producing processes changed in some kind of way now that you’re all back like the old times?
E.R.: Yeah a lot has changed. It’s fun to write music and be around people who you love.

ETS: Before the release date, you decided to put all the songs up on Facebook. What do you think about all the social network at the moment, does it really help?
E.R.: Yes it does help a lot. It’s good to be able to play some songs to people and see their reaction and hear some opinions and advice. Sometimes it’s not fun to read the negative stuff hahahaha, but i think releasing our songs to the public did help us out and made some fans happy.

ETS: Would you say that this is your best album so far? What are you mostly proud about?
E.R.: I would say it’s mine by far and I am just proud mostly of the fact that we did it together as a band of brothers.

ETS: What’s the story behind the official music video for ‘Faith (When I Let You Down)’? I mean, we’ve all seen that awesome cat on YouTube, but how did the idea for your video came?
E.R.: Our good friend Chris Marrs Piliero directed it and he actually came up with the idea. Just to touch on how many people watch cat videos but also about people who get famous for not really doing anything.

ETS: What’s your favorite part of being in Taking Back Sunday?
E.R.: Being around five crazy dudes, playing fun music in front of awesome people!

ETS: What is your best achievement as a band? Any expectations for next year?
E.R.: Just being able to be around for this long and still have fun doing what we do.

ETS: Have you got any plans after you finish touring with The Maine? We’d like to see you in Spain someday!
E.R.: I hope we just keep working and touring and i have been wanting to go to Spain forever so maybe soon. One day.

ETS: If you could choose three bands to go on tour with, which ones would they be?
E.R.: The Cure, At The Drive In and Jimmy Eat World again!

ETS: How do you come up with the setlist?
E.R.: We just pick together and try to fit as many songs as possible.

ETS: And finally… anything you want to say to your fans?
E.R.: Yes please buy our new record and we love you and thank you for all the support after all these years! And buy the new record!!! Hahahha, Thank you.
